Hi! Nitouryu here. You might recognize me as the editor, redrawer and 2nd man in charge of this rudderless ship. I don’t usually do announcements, but as you might have noticed we have been in a coma for the past 2 years, so exceptions must be made.
Hop on to our IRC channel and grab the release, or use the reader if you are a pleb:
Alice in Hell v04c23 (!Alice23) — A big round of applause and thank you to ckrit for translating. I’m glad we got together to kickstart this wonderful manga.
PSA:
Alright, alright, alright… It’s been about 2 years since our last proper solo release and I guess some explaining is in order. I won’t speak for GGpX; he has his own predicaments and life situation.
I can only speak for myself, but around end of 2016 I kinda burned out. Felt like we picked up too many great seinen manga’s, flew too close to the sun, lost that light at the end of the tunnel, broke too many promises, etc. There was just too much of everything.
As I had less and less free time in general I couldn’t focus on what to clean or redraw. “Do I redraw this chapter? Do we even have a translation for it? Do we have a typesetter for this volume? I cleaned this 10 month ago, what was the point?” etc.
And when you become disorganized you start to turn a blind eye, find excuses to do something else, it’s the same as not wanting to write that 300 word essay, so instead you vacuum clean your room and play Super Seducer 2.
Now my plan is to scale it back and do one or two mangas (not counting joints), in this case Alice in Hell. We will release a chapter every Monday until it’s all done. Nobody likes Mondays, so I hope this will brighten your day. I personally feel like this is the right approach — just taking it easy. I have seen too many great old groups fall victim to time — staff finishing schools, starting work, family life and losing passion for manga.
We will actually have our 13th anniversary on November 11. That’s a LONG time to be around the scene, and I have been a part of it for 10 years. We are not done yet. There are too many old gems left untranslated.
P.S.
Unfortunately our dear Leader and Chairman GGpX is still in exile in the Canada’s Mackenzie Mountains digging up tungsten 12h a day.
Hadn’t checked in quite a while but when I did… WOW!
So fudging terrific that you have picked up Jigoku no Alice again 🙂 … even greater that you plan to finish it with constant releases. I appreciate this so much! Thanks a ton!
Glad to hear you’re back. You’re a World Heritage site 🙂
